Lost lands, native land ca and land bridge, all located on Canada’s west coast, are in danger of being destroyed by wildfires, according to the US Forest Service.
“In the last 10 years, a total of 14 wildfires have impacted native lands in the contiguous United States, and two of those fires have occurred on lands that have been recognized as national parks,” the USFS said in a statement.
“It is a situation that the National Park Service and USFS have worked hard to address through the designation of lands and natural resources under the Endangered Species Act.”
USFS officials have been working with the Department of Interior’s (DOI) Land Management Service to address the situation, which is not a new one.
“Land is the bedrock of the land, and as such it is important that lands are managed and protected in an environmentally sustainable way,” DOI said in its statement.
USFS also said that it was working with local officials in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Montana and Utah to “coordinate the recovery of lost lands in an orderly manner.”
