The Land Cruiser will be returning to Lincoln next season, a team spokesman said Monday.
Land Cruiser, a four-door cruiser, is currently owned by the National Football League.
The Land Cruisers will be retired by the NFL in 2018, and the team’s logo will be changed to the one worn by the Lincoln, Neb., team in the 1960s.
The team’s name will be the same.
The car is currently being repainted.
The vehicle is part of the NFL’s “Land Cruiser Program.”
The team’s Lincoln logo will change to “The Lincoln Colts,” and a Land Cruiser logo will remain on the front and back of the car.
The Lincoln name will also remain.
The team plans to unveil the new Land Cruiser at a special ceremony on Aug. 29 at Lincoln Memorial Stadium.
The ceremony is set for 1 p.m.
ET and will include remarks by Lincoln Mayor Chris Nocco, Lincoln Mayor Ron Caruso, Lincoln County Mayor Paul D. Dannenfelser and Lincoln County Commissioner John Fruzs.
The Lincoln team will not be the first NFL team to bring the Land Cruiser back to its hometown.
The Indianapolis Colts’ name is the same as that of the Land Cruiser, but the team has been called “The Indianapolis-based Land Cruises.”
