An angel’s landing on a beach in a New York City park has been blamed for the death of a 20-year-old man who was found dead in his car.
The body of the unidentified man, who was identified by the police as Nicholas Gebhardt, was found on Friday afternoon by his mother and sister who had been walking on the beach.
According to police, Gebhard’s mother, Sharon, said she was walking by her son’s vehicle on Monday and was looking for him when she saw his body.
Sharon said she ran outside and found Gebhart’s body lying in the road.
“I thought he was dead, and then I looked at him and he was not dead, he was alive, I thought he might be dead,” Sharon Gebharts said.
Gebhardt’s sister, Amanda, said the police officer who found Gefhardt was very emotional.
“The first time I spoke to him, he told me that the next time he was going to have a funeral,” Amanda GebHarts said, adding that the family was still grieving.
The New York Post reports that Geb Harts had been hospitalized with depression.
Authorities believe Gebhatts death is the result of “the effects of alcohol, possibly marijuana, or drugs” during the trip to the park.
Police have yet to determine the cause of death, but say that Gefhart’s blood alcohol level was 0.08 percent.
Investigators said Gebtins death is still under investigation and that they are awaiting toxicology results.
